Scarf Swimmer

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 20, 2009

Peter just bought a new house in Florida with an inground pool and I was officially the first person to swim in his pool.  As I was floating in the water and enjoying the warm weather he proclaimed that “The Scarf Girl” should be wearing a scarf in his pool.

He proceeded to bring me this lovely scarf that very nicely complimented my bikini and my float and tied it around my neck when I came near the edge.

Someday soon I will share with you all the photos he took of me while I relaxed.

I actually have HUNDREDS of neckscarf and headscarf photos to post in their respective sections whenever time allows me to add them.

Off to Curacao tomorrow…I’ll make sure to make some blog posts from there.

What is it with Turkish scarves?

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 10, 2009

I was flying out of Istanbul yesterday, and I thought I had hit the jackpot…there was a TURKISH scarf designer’s store in the airport. When I go to a different country the souvenir I like to bring back in something that I will use, and a scarf is always good, right?

Well, I go into the scarf store, and it is upscale since it is in the airport (actually there was a small Hermes shop as well, but I wasn’t in the market for a $300 scarf).

So I have the sales lady show me quite a few different scarves, folding them up, etc. They were appx. 75€ per scarf, and that would have been fine had I even liked one.

All of them, even though they were silk, were not very shiny or soft. So needless to say I didn’t get one.

So the question still lies…where do the Turkish women get their beautiful headscarves?

I’m leaving Turkey today…

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 9, 2009

And I have failed to find where the local women buy their headscarves. I went to the Grand Bazaar, as well as come local shoppes in Istanbul and Carnakkle, but didn’t see any.

In the Grand Bazaar there were some scarf stalls, HOWEVER, most were fake Pashmina-types, and the silky ones they did have were very thin, and of low quality.

I would DEFINITELY come back to Turkey, so if anyone out there knows where the local women get their scarves from….please let me know.

Headscarf Montage: Part III

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 8, 2009

My final batch of headscarf photos from Turkey.  Once I get back to the U.S. I will go through all my ics and see if I have enough to make additions to the full-sized photograph section of MyScarfGirl.

Headscarf Montage: Part I

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 6, 2009

I know the photos are kind of small, but any true headscarf lover will immediately spot the local Turkish women wearing their shiny headscarves.  I’ll post a few more pics over the next few days.  Enjoy.

Istanbul Scarf Girl

by Caroline, Scarf Queen on March 5, 2009

I am currently visiting Istanbul, Turkey and spent a lot of time in the past couple of days visiting local mosques, which require women to wear a headscarf.  Needless to say, I fit right in.

You might remember the photos of me in the Hermes store in Paris where I was buying myself a new scarf.  This is the scarf I got in Paris, which really matches the red cashmere sweater Peter got me for Christmas very nicely…I had worn it as a headscarf to enter the mosques yesterday.  The previous day it was a Karl Lagerfeld.

I’ve visted many Muslim countries in the last couple of years and of course have seen plenty of headscarves being worn in those places.  What is different here in Turkey is that the women tend to wear very silky and shiny ones in very bright colors, which is very interesting.  I think Peter would really be enjoying himself.

In the next couple of days I will post some candid snapshots of the local women wearing headscarves for you guys, although they aren’t really close-ups, since I didn’t want to be obnoxious or offensive.  So stay tuned.
